Feelin' a bit Arty Farty

Recently I have just started my exam course for my A level Exam and was feeling pretty uninspired by my topic in general which is Inside, Outside and Inbetween.

However, by pure luck or fate, whatever you want to call it, I happily stumbled upon an artist on my sister's tumblr. So then I went and checked out two artists websites, one is a photographer, while the other is collaboration of two artists that work together.

Firstly, photographer Lalage Snow, who is based in London, did a series of photographs of solider's before they went to fight in Afghanistan, while they were there and after they returned. I hate to think whether or not she had photos of some soldiers of before and there and not when they return as it is a horrible reality. Her work really made me appreciate the value of my own life and the insignificance of my hardships compared to theirs.

I felt truly inspired by her work and thought it was perfect for my theme, so if anyone else is interested I shall paste the link to her website below.

I really think that something about their eyes is really haunting as especially after reading about their experiences on the artists website.

The other artist I found is the collaborative art of Cara Thayer and Louie Van Patten who work primarily with oil on canvas. I really like the messy style and use of colours adapted for skin tones which I think creates a unique effect and something I definitely want to try myself.

If you are reading this blog post and are into art I really recommend you check these artists out as their work is really interesting.

Artists Cara and Louie have their own blogspot sight that I will link below but sadly for any Brits they are based in the states which is pretty far to go to visit their work in a gallery but I will link there gallery showings below

007 Bond Party Makeup Look

Being in my last year of high school I have recently been finding myself having the pleasure to attend A LOT of 18th Birthday parties with quite eccentric themes. Last weekend I went to a Bond themed party (which is pretty standard) due to the recently released Skyfall which I have not seen.

I decided I didn't want to look around on other blogs or youtube videos for makeup inspiration, but come up with my own look.

For my makeup base I used Max Factor Xperience in Light Ivory mixed with Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25hr in True Ivory as both are either to light or dark for my skin but together create the perfect shade for my pale skin. Then I used Natural Collection Cover Up Stick in fair for dark circles and blemishes, Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder and L'oreal True Match Blush in Sandlewood Rose.

For my eyes I used the MUA palette Undressed which is basically a dupe for the Urban Decay Naked palette and the colours 3 for a base, 6 for the inner eye to the centre, 7 blended from the centre to the outer corner of the eye, 8 for the crease and 1 to highlight the inner corners of my eye.

I used these colours, aside from the base, underneath my eye, staying close to the waterline. For my eyebrows I used Miss Sporty Eye Pencil in Salvage and the black, Magic, from the same collection to line my waterline top and bottom.

To line my lash line I used the Maybelline paint pot in black and drew the line flicking up, directly in line with the end of my eyebrow. I also created a small diagonal flick in the inner corner of my eye to create a cat like effect.

As for my lips I used No7 Moisture Drench Lipstick in Shiny Conker with Carmex as a base, however I found this lipstick to be a great colour but did not last long and I found myself reapplying it throughout the night.

Thankyou for reading and Happy New Year! xxx

Something I needed to post to claim my blog but I don't really understand why.

Post Christmas Blues

As this is my first post on my blog I thought I would it was appropriate I start with my favourite time of year, Christmas. And yes, I know it's two days after the event but I'm one of those people who just can't let it go. So as  I particularly enjoy taking a nosy into other peoples Christmas festivities on their blogs I thought I would share mine.

As I write this I'm realising that I find it extremely weird not writing a persuasive or analytical piece, like I am used to doing as an English Literature student, but just speaking as me, it's not something I'm used to. But a nice change to not have to constantly over think every word you write. I can write sdjaofjwpvjsdv and it doesn't even matter! Sorry about that.

Anyway.....

Our Christmas traditions consist of parma or prosciutto ham and melon, with a side of port as a starter. As a fully fledge 'adult' (still a child at heart) this my first legal Christmas day drink. Although we all know that the younguns
are treated to a drop or two at this time of year, don't pretend you haven't, but I always felt slightly embarrassed to drink alcohol in front of my fam. Don't really know why...

Presenting....the beast! I know the traditional poultry of choice is usually a turkey, but being on a farm at this time of year allows a few luxuries, here its in the shape of a goose. Personally I much prefer their richer flavour which is similar to duck than that of a turkey. But each to their own.

Don't mind me, just taking in the fresh air of ye old Yorkshire before the return to the smog.

Every family has that one extremely tacky piece of deco, this is ours, props to my Grandad for the stellar selection. It plays music and everything.

Merry Christmas to you's all!

Love
